Evans Enlists as Steve Rogers, America's First Avenger

Hollywood heartthrob Chris Evans has been tapped to play Steve Rogers, the titular character in the upcoming Marvel film 'Captain America'. Evans, known for his roles in 'The Fantastic Four' and 'Push', will don the patriotic suit and shield of the iconic superhero in the film, which is set to hit theaters in July 2011. Joining Evans on the star-studded cast are Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, and Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Chester Phillips.

Synopsis

The film follows Rogers' journey from a frail young man to a brave soldier who becomes the symbol of freedom and justice for his country. After being rejected by the military due to his small size, Rogers volunteers for a secret government experiment that grants him superhuman strength and abilities. As Captain America, Rogers leads the Allied forces against the villainous Red Skull and his army of HYDRA agents in World War II.
