MASH Actor Larry Linville Dies
Beloved Character Major Frank Burns Remembered

Lawrence Lavon Linville, known for his portrayal of the sniveling Major Frank Burns on the CBS TV show MASH, died Monday in New York. He was 60 years old.
Linville's character, Burns, was a pompous and cowardly surgeon who often clashed with his fellow officers at the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. Despite his unlikeable nature, Burns became a fan favorite and a symbol of the show's satirical humor.
Linville's last appearance as Burns was in the Season 5 finale, "Margaret's Marriage." He left the show at the end of that season and was not offered a contract for Season 6.
Linville's death was confirmed by his publicist. The cause of death was not immediately known.
